USPF Panthers Outlast DBTC in Overtime

Demo Nuevo Filoteo scores a career-high 27 points, Randy Avila chipped in 11 points, 4 assists and 6 steals and Armel Fuentes had 8 points and 12 boards as the USPF Panthers outlasted the DBTC Greywolves, 88-83 in overtime in their opening game of the 9th CeSAFI season at the New Cebu Coliseum.

DBTC was led by Celso Colegado's 24 points. Other double figure scorers for DBTC were Alain Delos Santos with 17, Jefford Aldave, Joey Juntilla and Noelle Castro who had 10 points apiece.

USPF Panthers' Moncrief Rogado Named to CeSAFI Basketball Selection for HK Tournament

Reigning CeSAFI Basketball Three-Point Shootout King Moncrief Rogado(6'0" SG) of the USPF Panthers was named to the CeSAFI Basketball Selection that will see action in the 17th Super Kung Sheung Cup in Hong Kong on December 16-21, 2008. The King Panther will share the wing slot with SWU's Alfred Belande(6'2" SF/SG), UV Green Lancers' Elmer Mykkiel Cabahug(6'0" SG) and Ritchum Marc Dennison(5'10" SG). Rogado is expected to provide perimeter firepower especially against taller teams from Singapore, India, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Southern California.

USPF Panther Jeffrey Laurente is Most Error-Prone in CeSAFI Basketball 2008

Jeffrey Laurente of the University of Southern Philippines Panthers is most error-prone in CeSAFI basketball 2008. The rookie Panthers point guard committed 30 errors in 8 games for the Panthers in CeSAFI 2008, an average of 3.75 errors a night. 4 Panthers figured among the top 20 most error-prone players of CeSAFI 2008. Veteran point guard Randy Avila is 5th with 3.13 errors a game, JR Gulane is 7th with 2.86 miscues a night, Jordan Bardilas is 15th with 2.13 turnovers an outing and Jonathan Monterde is 19th with 1.88 errors a game. Meanwhile, 1 Panther was spotless in 3 appearances. Jestoni Casquejo did not commit a single error in CeSAFI 2008 and is among only 3 players who saw action who had no turnovers.

Elwin Durano is USPF Panthers Blocks Leader in CeSAFI Basketball 2008

Elwin Durano of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers made good use of his extraordinary athleticism and leaping ability to lead his team in blocked shots in CeSAFI basketball 2008. Durano is the only non-center to lead his team in shot blocks for CeSAFI basketball 2008. The high-flying Tuburan native was the league's 8th top shotblocker with an average of 0.6 blocks a game. Seldom-used Jestoni Casquejo, the Panthers' 2nd top shotblocker wound up 15th with an average of 0.33 rejections an outing.

The top defensive point guard does not come from among a semifinalist. Randy Avila of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers is CeSAFI basketball 2008 league leader in steals with 19 steals in 8 games or an average of 2.38 swipes per game. Panthers rookie Jeffrey Laurente was 5th overall with 1.88 steals per game, JR Gulane was 6th with 1.71 and Jordan Bardilas was 9th with 1.63 steals a game.

Renato Gulane Jr. led the University of Southern Philippines Panthers in the rebounding department for CeSAFI basketball 2008. Gulane amassed a total of 42 rebounds in 7 games for the Panthers this season to average 6 boards a game. Gulane was the lone Panther among the league's top 20 rebound leaders and was 6th overall. The Panthers' starting forward also finished 3rd in the offensive rebounds leaderboard for CeSAFI basketball 2008 with an average of 3.14 offensive recoveries a night. Fellow Panthers forward Jonathan Monterde averaged 1.38 offensive caroms a night and was 19th overall. Gulane was again the lone Panther in the top 20 defensive rebounds leaders list for CeSAFI basketball 2008, finishing 17th with an average of 2.86 defensive boards per game.

Speedster Randy Avila is team leader in assists for the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers in CeSAFI basketball 2008. Avila had a total of 34 assists in 8 games or an average of 4.25 per game to finish as the league's 4th assists leader. Closely trailing Avila was fellow Panther and rookie Jeffrey Laurente who had 33 dimes in 8 games or an average of 4.13 a game to finish 5th in assists in the league. Panther Dennis Tabada who had 2.5 assists a game also finished 14th overall in the assists ladder.
